Biografía

  • With several releases under his belt, and already a big club draw in his native Bristol, the time is right for tech-house and ‘party minimal’ DJ/producer [sic] to push things to the proverbial next level.
If you’ve had your ear to the tech-house underground in the past couple of years, you’ve probably heard of [sic] already. His first EP was the ‘Datum’ EP on Drain Records, which was swiftly followed by a three-tracker for Dropkick Music. Now, signing to Aux Technology has really pushed his name forward in the scene. His recent remix of Arrow!!!'s ‘Nu Jakker’ has been very well received, with Filth & Splendour declaring, “The [sic] remix is SICK!” The 'Rise of the Misfits EP' is currently out on Aux Technology with three pounding tracks – Rise of the Misfits, Stay Horizontal and 23 – and the 'We are not Alone EP' is due out on Aux in late March 2010. Known to his mum and dad as Dan Jeffries, [sic] has been involved in music one way or another for over 15 years. Dan started teaching himself how to mix and write tunes using software such as Octamed around the age of 15, but it was the move to Canterbury University that really kicked things off. Dan was resident at university nightclub The Venue from 1996-1999. The biggest sound in Kent at that time was drum & bass, and Dan played alongside the likes of Goldie, Mickey Finn, Matrix, Randall, Hype and more. He was also continuing to experiment with production, testing his tunes out to the crowd with great results. After Dan moved back to Bristol in 1999 he really got his teeth into Reason and soon became a leading voice on the Internet on its in-depth use and application. He was also appointed technology tutor for Access to Music, one of the UK’s most respected music colleges, and has been with them for over eight years, playing a leading role in the development of online learning and the national Music Technology course. Musically, Dan has flourished over the last couple of years. A major operation to remove a brain tumour gave Dan the incentive to really push his music career forward and with the constantly developing minimal techno and tech-house scene reminding him of the Wild Pitch-style house of the mid-’90s that he loved so much, he felt it was time to make a change. Within a few months of producing in this new style, [sic] started to pick up label interest, leading to his first release - Datum EP - on Drain Records. The Dropkick EP, in particular – featured the tracks Boom & Bust, Now Do As I Say and Oni – showcased Dan's ability to write heavy dancefloor tunes but with a real focus on melody, atmosphere and personality. As a result, more and more DJ work started to come Dan’s way. His infectious, bouncy sound - a blend that Dan calls ‘party minimal’ – was really starting to catch on, and soon Dan was playing out on a regular basis across Bristol. Dan now mixes live with Traktor and a VCI-100 controller, allowing him to mash and blend various tracks and ensure the clubber has an experience to remember. Whether it’s dark, sinister sounds or a bouncy, party vibe, Dan can tailor the track selection to match the mood of the club.
