Silvia Kastel's DJ sets fuse sonic experimentation and unashamedly pop melodies with global bass-heavy polyrhythms.Hailing from Puglia in Southern Italy, artist/DJ Silvia Kastel’s musical background began in experimental voice and electronics while studying sound engineering and electronic music in New York. She started performing live in her precocious teens with a main focus on experimental electronic music and extended vocal techniques. Evolving into DJing in Berlin, first on radio and then in clubs, and now based in London with a monthly residency on NTS, her range has expanded to combine sonic exploration of the outer edges with sensual club music. Her sets fuse experimentation and unashamedly pop melodies with global bass-heavy polyrhythms. Kastel was already a prominent figure on the experimental and electronic underground when her debut album, ‘Air Lows’ dropped on Blackest Ever Black in 2018. Latest releases: Shakey (Palto Flats, 2020). Ormai (Hyperdub x Adult Swim, 2020), Xantharmony EP (Youth, 2022). Now, whether on DJ Stingray’s curated stage at Dimensions Festival, Dekmantel Selectors, Boiler Room in Bologna, Dehli and Mumbai, All in Shanghai, WWW in Tokyo, or De School in Amsterdam, Kastel's reputation precedes her as a risk-taking and eclectic selector, whose singular taste can unite the most disparate of genres, styles and tempos.
