Percussive, atmospheric and emotionally evocative, Blake's sound is an ever-evolving representation of his cultural and sonic environment.Hailing from Australia, artist, producer & DJ Soul Wun (Blake Carthew) utilises music to access and convey deeper emotions of the subconscious. Harnessing music as a vessel for escapism, Soul Wun builds soundscapes relative to the emotional and situational happenings around him. Evocative vocal snippets above and beyond deeply emotional piano voicings are the key to understanding the mental workings of the Sydney-based artist. From hip hop centric origins, Soul Wun’s sound has grown into a unique and honest display of his influences. Childhood fascination with the African rhythms of jazz, funk and soul merged with a later obsession with the sound and cultural foundations of more contemporary UK bass, breaks and jungle. Soul Wun’s output now resides somewhere within the realm of highly atmospheric, evocative and emotional dance music. Blake has released various highly performing vinyl EPs amongst a series of digital singles and Various Artist contributions. In addition to production, Blake ran a radio show on Melbourne’s Area 3000 (2021-2022) featuring artists and friends from around the country – Public Space explored music on the periphery.
