  • Steve Thorpe is primarily a breakbeat DJ from Manchester, UK. Having been resident at long running Manchester clubnight for 15 years and co-founding Manchesters premier breaks/electronic night - Lowdown & Dirty
    Steve Thorpe started mixing tunes at home when he was 18 and first started DJing in Manchesters bars and clubs in 1996. Playing an eclectic mix of broken beats. In 1997, Steve joined Manchester clubnight - Tangled and turned the upstairs chillout room of a house and trance night into the longest running breakbeat night in the UK...if not the world - Tangled Breaks. Running weekly, then twice monthly and then quarterly for over 15 years. Steve has warmed up and played alongside all the best breaks DJs and producers in the UK. After Tangled stopped regular events in 2008 he started his own night - Carry On which after 14 months then changed into Lowdown and Dirty... which is now the best breaks clubnight in Manchester. Steve still plays for Tangled Breaks for big one-off events. Steve has recently released two books about his involvement in the Manchester clubscene. '15 - The scrapbook of a Manchester DJ' is an 80 page book telling the story of his journey through dance music, through stories, flyers, articles and photos. 'Tangled - The history of a Manchester clubbing institution' a 120 page book about the history of one of Manchesters longest running clubnights. Crammed full of flyers, photos, stories, articles and memories taking you on journey over 18 years on the scene
