- After 20 years of DJing and promoting, The Running Man is filtering that experience into his productions with a string of quality breakbeat and techno releases and remixes. He's also back DJing after a few years away with a renewed passion.The Running Man is the alias of Cardiff-based DJ and producer Doug Nicholls. Named after a top three best Arnie movie (Predator’s number one, right?); the dance move perfected watching Normski’s Dance Energy in the 90s; and the decade-long hiatus from music when he ran 10 marathons. Having started out playing hip hop, Mo Wax and Ninja Tunes records and late 90s drum’n’bass, Doug found a happy home with the breaks sound that emerged in the early 2000s. He spent a decade DJing in clubs around the UK (and one hazy night in Belgium which is a story for another time), as well as being resident and promoter at the infamous Sumo nights in Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach. The parties always went off, and you can ask the likes of Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs to vouch for it. Sumo's back in 2022 and The Running Man is using it as a platform to showcase his own music and to bring artists he loves to Cardiff. Doug's using his lifetime love of music to influence his sound, which in his words "bridges the sofa and the club".
