Threnody began producing bass music in 2000 following early musical outings playing guitar and electronics in post-rock, ambient and noise crews. A classically trained guitarist and cornet player his experiences of playing in orchestras have always influenced his compositions that involve complex arrangements and intricate melodies. In 2001 Threnody tuned into the brand new sounds of dubstep and was a pioneer of the dark dubstep sound. Early releases on Rottun, Combat and Creative Space drew the template for many others to follow. Following his early experiments with heavy halfstep he emerged as a key player in the breakstep scene pushing a hybrid of breaks, grime and dubstep which culminated in releases on Urban Graffiti, Red Volume, Furioso and his own imprint UK Trends. After stepping away from the scene in 2009 Threnody immersed himself in the studio to develop his new sound. With reference points of grime, minimalism, ethnic percussion music and post-war avant-garde he began merging his influences and started work on his debut album set for release in 2011. A masterpiece of deep, atmospheric tracks and killer, experimental dancefloor bombs the album features orchestral compositions mixed with ruff, warped bass and glitch infused beats. With an instinct for new sounds and an enthusiasm for reaching beyond the boundaries of genres Threnody has produced a work that will prove to be influential in defining the future underground sounds of the next decade. As a well-established DJ playing weekly on Sub FM and regularly across the UK and Europe his DJ sound mashes up bass music from across the spectrum with characteristic energy behind the decks. Constantly championing new trends his Sub FM show has been at the forefront of underground bass music and his sets have evolved into a unique blend of flavours that destroy the dancefloor whilst expanding the mind. Appearances on key podcasts including Get Darker and Electronic Explorations have helped spread his eclectic sound to a mass audience and with DJ support from Mary-Anne Hobbs (XFM), Rob Booth (Electronic Exporations) and DJs across the pirate network his music will continue to influence the next generation of producers and help shape the future of electronic music.
