- Tr nch is the alias of Dave Twomey who has established himself as one of the leading techno DJ's in Japan over the 8 years he lived there, whilst simultaneously globetrotting as much as he could to South America, Russia, South East Asia and more while..Dave's first gig was at Lakota in Bristol in 1998 a few months after being persuaded by none other than Paul Rose aka Scuba to buy his own turntables. Innumerable student club nights there interspersed with a year in Germany DJing boat parties, clubs & afterhours sessions brings us 4 years on, to 2002. In his final at Bristol studying law, Dave wins Muzik magazine's monthly mixing competition Bedroom Bedlam. In the summer following graduation he once again made the decision to move, this time to Japan, falling on his feet by coming to a regular spot at Yellow within the first 3 months. During his 8 year stay he held various residencies at Yellow (now Eleven), Air, Womb, Colors Studio & Warehouse702 injecting a dose of the UK & European underground into the Tokyo club scene. A keen & prolific event organiser over the years, various projects led him to his current focus Mariana - deep, trippy & liquid techno events inspired centrally by the Mariana trench & its fearsome creatures. Past guests include the likes of Ben Klock, Peter Van Hoesen, Mike Parker & Delta Funktionen. Dave's Mariana Dub Sessions podcast, showcasing the Mariana sound, has received praise from the likes of MLZ & Peter Van Hoesen among others. Dave is currently back in the UK tending to his roots, focusing on production, but interspersed with regular trips to Japan to continue Mariana & tour. Dave's debut 12-inch release under his Tr nch alias was a collaboration with IORI on Time To Express, described in press as 'mesmerising' with support from the likes of Cio D'Or, Laurent Garnier, & Chris Liebing among others. His alter ego & production alias Tr nch takes a more purist tone, exploring the underbelly of techno - pulsating, throbbing soundscapes that mirror & draw influence from the deepest place on earth, the Mariana trench in the Pacific Ocean. The Tr nch DJ and live set is deep, ephemeral & liquid techno, and like any Dave Twomey set draws heavily on a love of hypnotic music, a deep love of vinyl & the experience of a varied, 15 year DJ career which has already touched Russia, Argentina, China, Chile, Germany, Paraguay, Brasil and Japan … More production collaborations, Mariana tours & events in Japan and Europe, and a Mariana vinyl label Mariana Wax is launching in May 2013.
