Biografía

  • I don't like to say I have given my life to music. I prefer to say music has given me life. ~Tyrone "mixologist" Francis
Tyrone Francis is a true veteran in the house music scene and is one of NYC’s finest DJs. His phenomenal mixes and technical skills have rightfully earned him his moniker, “The mixologist”. Tyrone stands out from most DJs with his innate ability to mix beats with passion and fluidity, making the music sound seamless. That along with his expansive collection of music and keen ear for sound makes him a truly extraordinary artist. Whether taking the crowd on a 14-hour musical journey, or playing a killer peak-hour set, a party with “The Mixologist” is one that fans everywhere anticipate. Born in London, Tyrone and his family moved to Brooklyn, NY when he was eleven years old. At the age of sixteen, Tyrone experienced his first “Paradise Garage” party and Larry Levan instantly became a major influence in his life. However, it was DJ David Camacho who would become Tyrone’s mentor, as he went from carrying Camacho’s record crates, to eventually opening up for him. While dee-jaying at all the big NYC parties, Tyrone also worked at “Dance Tracks” and “Satellite Records” giving DJs the “must play” vinyl. Dating back to the early years in the house music scene, Tyrone has played many of NYC’s legendary clubs and parties, such as “Wildpitch”, “Club Space”, “Mars” and “Nell’s”. Tyrone was one of the resident DJs for the “Behind Club Doors” party. From 2001 to 2004, Tyrone would be the resident DJ for the Wednesday night “BKNY/667” party. He was also a rotating resident guest DJ for Jellybean Benitez’s “Ain’t Nuthin’ But A House Party”. Tyrone has the sole honor of making the most frequent guest appearances at “Club Shelter” and “Body & Soul Party”. Besides the local scene, his appeal has not only taken him to many cities all over the US, but also to many countries abroad. Currently, label owner & co-founder of “blak-n-yello Inc.,” Tyrone’s been very busy producing quality dance music for the label. Recently he's worked with artists Dawn Tallman, Koffee the Storyteller, Tiger Wilson and Queen Aaminah. His re-editing skills have also brought much attention and recognition – his "BNY" retouches have become highly coveted. Not only has Tyrone been busy working on his label, but he also has remixes out on other labels like Tribe Records, Seed Recording, Soul Sun Soul Music, Slagg Records & Bamboo Sounds. In 2011, blak-n-yello launched their own party at Brooklyn's renowned venue, The Morgan. Their monthly "BKNY" party is a 14-hour music lover's haven. The party features the "mixologist" as the headlining resident DJ, playing on blak-n-yello's sharp & precise "BNY Sound System" every second Friday of the month. BKNY has become an international destination for dancers, clubbers & party people, bringing back the true essence of NYC's underground scene and putting Brooklyn on the map.
