Biografía
- DJ, Producer and musician based in São Paulo, Brazil.With a passion for the musical creation process, it's from his studio that he orchestrates a successful dual career spanning 15 years. A globally recognized music producer, the artist's solo discography boasts seven albums and numerous EPs released on labels worldwide such as Apron Records (London), Tartelet Records (Copenhagen), Soul Clap Records (New York), and Selva Discos (Brazil). Currently, he is part of the esteemed Italian label and agency "Sounds Familiar" and maintains partnerships in projects like "My Girlfriend" with Benjamin Sallum, "Sphynx" with Márcio Vermelho, and in his partnership with the impactful "L’homme Statue" with French artist, singer, and performer Loïc Koutana. His production also engages with artists in creating sonic and audiovisual pieces within the realm of contemporary art, showcasing collaborations in significant institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art - MAM in Rio de Janeiro and the New Museum in New York, both featuring the installation "Karaiw a’e wà" by artist Zahy Guajajara. With "L’homme Statue" project, he was part of the programming of “Documenta Fifteen” in 2022, held every five years in Kassel, Germany. He was also among the select group of global producers for the Red Bull Music Academy residency in 2014, held in Tokyo. With a comprehensive and versatile approach, Zopelar has traversed various electronic music genres including house, techno, break, disco, and broken beat, blending his influences from Brazilian organic music, jazz, funk, boogie, and soul in performances from north to south of the Brazilian electronic scene. His performances have also taken place in clubs around the world such as Panorama Bar (Berlin), Blitz Club (Munich), Lux Frágil (Lisbon), festivals and projects like Sònar, Dekmantel, CTM, Bahidora, Gop Tun, Whole, Nuits Sonore, DGTL, and RBMA in countries such as Japan, Chile, Australia, Belgium, England, Poland, and Mexico - in addition to São Paulo - in DJ set, solo live, or with the band Teto Preto - which he was a part of until 2020. As a DJ, Zopelar began his career as a resident at the electronic music club D-EDGE (2012 to 2015) and later at the ODD party (2015 to 2023), of which he was also a co-founder, allowing him to develop as a curator and create memorable experiences during his 8 years of involvement in the collective, which marked a crucial period in the development of independent parties in São Paulo. For 2024, Zopelar is preparing the release of two new albums. "Ritmo Freak" will be distributed in May by Tartelet Records.
