On Saturday 30th March two of our flagship raves join forces to showcase a serious collection of drum and bass heavyweights. We Fear Silence have a strong drum and bass pedigree, boasting some of the baddest parties to hit the capital in recent times; curating Metalheadz, Shougn Audio, Blackout and A Bunch of Cuts parties amongst others. Idiosynphonic is a name firmly embedded in London's underground drum and bass scene and have already, in 2013, welcomed Dillinja, Hazard, Break, Die, Wilkinson down to Cable. Pairing these 2 forces together is guaranteed to make for an epic night.
First, let’s touch on Goldie – born Clifford Joseph Price, and raised on the hard streets of Walsall, he’s perhaps one of the biggest icons of drum and bass music culture. Ever a man of disillusion with the industry, his own label, Metalheadz has become an icon label of the drum and bass scene, helping establish some of the biggest artists of the last 15 years. Having built a reputation as one of the most recognisable men in dance music - Goldie's always been famed as a man of notoriety. On 30th March, he makes his way to Cable. Large!
Then there’s Fabio – or Fitzroy Heslop, raised a London boy, and achieving prominence after a stint as a private radio DJ in the mid-eighties – it’s here that he met long-time collaborator, Groovefinder, who would later form a basis for his Radio 1 radio show, years later. As a long time pioneer to the dance and rave scene – with a career now spanning three decades, Fabio has always been a champion of house and jungle music. But it’s perhaps Fabio’s Radio 1 show that is credited as having the biggest effect on drum and bass. Helping bring drum and bass direct from the rave, to the radio, Fabio helped mainstream audiences connect with dissonant music forms.
Commix, the last big favourite of the Idio line-up, started as a duo raised from the bed of mid 00’s music culture – breaking free from the Cambridge trinity that encapsulated Nu:Tone, Logistics and Commix. Perhaps the most forward-thinking trait of the group was their ability to tie experimentalism into their production, approaching drum and bass with a beautifully listenable, but sideways attitude – separating them from others. They’re a group bred from dissatisfaction with the industry – choosing now to only make a select amount of public appearances.
Meanwhile, we have DJ Die, a stalwart character from the early days of break beat, who's sure to also bring the party. With both Die, and Goldie coming from Bristol, We Fear Silence & Idiosynphonic will see the reuniting of an instinct that grew from West England to become a worldwide phenomenon. New talent comes in the form of Technimatic and Koncept. So get ready to keep 2013 alive, get out and party.
