• Cable welcomes DARK STAR a new bi-monthly Saturday night with residents Freaks, Cosmo, Ashley Beadle. Colleen Murphy aka DJ Cosmo has never been one to play safe. Her sets are a reflection of her geographical and musical roots that find themselves standing somewhere between the post-disco of New York and the sharp-edge of London. Cosmo's skill at linking the past with the present to create something altogether more edgy is not completely uncanny given the fact that she remains a protégé of both David Mancuso and François Kevorkian, being one of the few guests at both the renowned Loft and Body & Soul parties. Her appearances across North America, Asia and Europe have crystallised her reputation as being a DJ who is as comfortable with the cutting-edge as she is with the rich musical heritage of her East Coast upbringing. Her instinctive leaning towards eclecticism rather than short-sightedness is again borne out by her Bitches Brew record label Freaks was originally the brain child of Bournemouth’s Justin Harris and London based, Luke Solomon. They began recording for Phono, home of Herbert and Swag and their first few releases, which came in three parts, saw them journey through filter disco (The Shrunken Head), quirky mid tempo house (Journey's Through Happiness), and minimal techno (The Milwaukee Stance). Then came the time for them to set up their own label and they kicked off the Music For Freaks imprint by releasing a series of 4 12 inches, each with a collectable sleeve. MFF was also home for their albums, The Beat Diaries (which saw them team up with their now long term front lady, Stella Attar for lyrical / vocal inspiration), Meanwhile Back At The Disco, and The Man Who Lived Underground. Tracks from these albums, such as “Turning Orange”, “The Creeps”and “Where Were You When The Lights Went Out” have since become Freaks seminal records. Luke & Justin soon decided it was time to take Freaks live and in addition to Stella, they teamed up with the infamous Jonny Rock on guitar, Sascha Darroch Davies on drums and Rub on bass. Playing across the board in both dance and the more open minded indie venues, they realized Freaks could fit into both worlds and rock the place – from their kick ass shows at Fabric, London, Soho’s Madame Jojo’s and Old Street’s, Cargo to Arthur Baker’s night at Club 11 in Amsterdam Joining our residents are some of the globes purveyors of quality dance music in all shapes and forms. Kicking off out launch we are pleased to announce one of the West Coasts Masters Doc Martin. While most star DJ's are one-note musicians sticking to a single subgenera of music, Doc' s sets bring many styles of music as well as people together. In this age of specialized formats among DJ's and producers, what sets Martin apart from his peers is his ability to spin everything from deep house, acid, funk, tribal, and classics in a set, while having it all make sense. Joining Doc will be Rob Mello. Rob has been DJing since 1985 and has pioneered his own style that is much in demand all over the world. With various regular appearances and residences, far too many to mention! Rob has started his own Record label called “Disco 45”. This label features mainly his own productions and collaborations with other artists that Rob holds the highest respect for. Expect releases from Robert Owens, Lil Mark, Matthew Herbert, Radio Slave, The Freaks, Sensory Productions, Matthew Styles and many more… All this and a busy DJ schedule! Severino began his DJ career in Mantova, Northern Italy. At the age of 26 he made the move to London where his job was record buyer for Italian Disco Label, Disco Inn. His work with Disco Inn has been one of success and has brought a smile to many a London clubbers face. In 1998 Severino decided to make a step into club promotion. His first venture was with friends Rob Wood (of the unforgettable Jockey Slut) and Michael Morley (Zomba Records and Lucky Numbers) and their party was Happy Families. They began their night at the Easts premier cocktail DJ bar Cocomo. As word spread numbers increased and Fabric was their next port of all with a bi-monthly residency knocking the socks of all who came to shake their tail feathers! The Lifthouse house was Happy Families next home which the boys promoted for just over a year. During the same time Severino met Jim Stanton (The Cock & Horse Meat Disco) and began to make a little part of the gay scene. His residencies came in quick and fast and in these days Severino is making his music heard some of Vauxhalls finest gay establishments like Crash, AM and particularly at the legendary Sunday parties Horse Meat Disco
