Plan B is one of South London’s best kept secrets and a staple for the area’s clubbing for almost nine years. Since the re-launch of the club in 2009 (which included fitting a state of the art, no expense spared Funktion 1 sound system in both rooms) Plan B has put on a succession of high quality events, featuring the outputs of emerging underground talent and international DJs alike, offering a unique space for clubbing in Brixton.
From now on Saturdays at Plan B will become a platform for innovative and retrospective forms of house, techno, disco and other electronics.
Launching on Saturday 18th September 2010, in conjunction with FACT Magazine, we welcome a rare set from Detroit producer and disco aficionado Moodymann (this will be his only London date until early 2011) and accompanying him, the jewel in Eglo Records’ crown – Floating Points. Community promises to redefine the scene in Brixton and South London as a whole with a fresh, in-house perspective on how Saturdays nights in one of the most musically rich and forward thinking cities in the world, should sound like.
We are aiming to reunite the best home-grown talent in South London whilst accommodating some of the world’s finest DJs, bringing about a return of the underground spirit and affinity for the area that has been so strong in the past.
One of the most important aspects of the night will be its base of residents, who are all well known for their long term association with the area. So, in no particular order, our residents are… Frank Tope (who is currently producing disco records under his Wild Geese moniker with Mr Dan Foat, and one of the original Rooty DJs), Foolish Felix (part of the original Tonka crew with DJ Harvey), Raf Daddy (one half of the critically acclaimed Two Bears, with Joe Goddard from Hot Chip) and Andy Blake (the secretive boss of Dissident Records), all of whom live in and around Brixton and are well known for their musical pedigree and underground sensibilities (most of this lot are regulars at underground warehouse parties going on in the area most weekends).
Forthcoming guests include the likes of Jamie Jones, Todd Terje, Sebo K and Greg Wilson, with lots more to be announced in the coming weeks and months!
