Myhouse-Yourhouse (MHYH) was launched in July 2005 by creators Alex Traska and Erick Andersen who shared a vision for a non-profit, global community of producers and DJs broadcasting on and contributing to the MHYH network. Focussing on a niche market of underground house and eclectic music (mixtures of soul, funk, disco, brokenbeat, nujazz and more besides), MHYH quickly set itself aside from its competitors. With a packed schedule of live broadcasts (with over seventy shows now listed on the timetable), twenty-four-hour broadcasting, a chain of events around the world hosted by MHYH DJs to promote the website and now a record label of the same name, MHYH has become a globally respected brand in underground music.
Audiences continue to interact with MHYH both via online activities and at events around the world. MHYH ran a series of events over a one week at the 2009 South by South West (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas, where we now also host a weekly house music event. We were present at the Miami Winter Music Conference for the third year running in March 2009 and have hosted parties in other USA locations including Atlanta, Hollywood and San Diego. Back over this side of the Atlantic, MHYH parties have packed in the crowds in London (in successful venues such as Fluid (Farringdon), Jam (Old Street) and Ruby Lounge (Kings Cross)), Liverpool and Leicester. Nottingham, as MHYH’s physical home, has played host to countless parties and generated a fantastic reputation amongst Nottingham’s night-crawlers.
This year, MHYH celebrates its 4th Birthday, marking the occasion with a vast 3-day party covering 4-venues and showcasing approximately thirty acts, with sponsors Vedett (lager), VitaminWater (juice drink) and Park Plaza Hotels proud to be involved. In past years, audience numbers in excess of 1700 have physically attended with yet more tuned in live online. Our events have been covered by the Metro newspaper, Mixmag, The BBC and a variety of other local fashion and style magazines and publications.
The record label, masterminded by Paul Denheyer, continues to release music produced by those with shows on or an involvement with the MHYH network on both digital and vinyl formats. Our first release has now sold out and our second has just left the pressing plant, despite one of the tracks from it being licenced by Mark Farina’s “OM Records” label for inclusion on the “House of OM” compilation released last year.
As we enter our fourth year of operation listener figures are still growing, new shows are still joining, DJs and users are looking forward to a brand new website with a plethora of new features and a refreshed design and plans are already afoot for our next appearance at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas 2010.
